Hello,
I have two workstations that run an application that uses SQL Server.
The OS on the workstations in W2000 and there are no SQL server tools
installed.
When the workstations connect to the default instance of SQL Server (for
instance M1_DEV), there is no problem.
But when the workstations try to connect to a named instance (for instance
M1_DEV\CT_TEST), they get the error:
Error code 53
Error Message: ConnectionOpen(CreateFile())
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?
Thanks,
Duncan.
Hi
Check the MDAC version on the client. You need a minimum of MDAC 2.5 to
support named SQL Server 2000 instances. Windows 2000 shipped with MDAC 2.1

Thanks for your reply, but I checked the MDAC version and it is MDAC 2.6
refresh. SO that should be allright, I guess.
Any other ideas?

Duncan.

Use Component Checker to verify MDAC installation.
Check server and client machine.
You can find it on http://www.microsoft.com/data
